The Divine Hedge of Protection

2 minutes read

Did you know that God has a divine hedge around His children? The concept of Divine Protection, referred to as the hedge in Job 1:10, is very reassuring. Even Satan acknowledges that God has put a “hedge” around Job, his household, and all his possessions. Satan had to ask for permission from God to remove the hedge so that he may be able to test Job. What does this protective hedge mean for us as children of God? how does God often permit our trials?

The Hedge Around Job (Job 1:10)

Satan recognized that God had placed a protective hedge around Job. This protective layer is both a physical safeguard and a spiritual and emotional one. As mentioned above, Satan had to ask for God’s permission to test Job, signifying that ultimate control is in God’s hands. Job 1:9-12

Other Instances of God’s Protection

  1. Psalm 91:1–2 — “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
  2. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 — “But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.”
  3. Isaiah 54:17 — “ no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD and their vindication from me, declares the LORD.”.”

These verses show us that God’s protective hedge is not exclusive to Job; it extends to all His children who walk in faith and obedience.

When People Allowed Satan to Test Them

  1. Adam and Eve (Genesis 3) — Satan tempted Eve, and both Adam and Eve sinned, breaking the divine hedge of protection by their disobedience.
  2. King David and Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11) — David allowed lust to enter his heart, leading to adultery and murder.
  3. Judas Iscariot (Luke 22:3–6) — Satan entered Judas, leading him to betray Jesus.

In these instances, it’s worth noting that the individuals made choices that allowed Satan to enter their lives through disobedience, greed, or betrayal.

Lessons to Take Away

  1. God’s Protection is Real — God genuinely protects His children. However, this doesn’t mean we won’t face trials or temptations.
  2. God’s Permission for Trials — Sometimes, God allows trials to test our faith, refine our character, and bring us closer to Him.
  3. Personal Responsibility — We must guard our hearts and minds to maintain this divine hedge of protection.

Conclusion

Remember the words of James 4:7, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” By submitting to God, we strengthen the hedge of protection around us and empower ourselves to resist the devil.

May this message fortify your faith and help you walk confidently under God’s protective hedge. Amen.
